I have seen videos using hot foil plates with ink and running through die cut machine for an inked impression. Seemed to work well. I think the "image lines" are a little thicker on a foil plate...

I believe the color of the rubber is indicative too. If it's not red, I think it came as a "special" (incentive, occasion) set.

I keep an old t-shirt cut up and press small images with it after I put them where I want them (picks up any oozing glue).

It is meant to stay tacky after it dries (a two-way glue). Do you have an anti-static pouch or powder brush? A fine dusting may do the trick without being visible.
