Hi there, I've scoured the internet but can find no answer to my query/problem so am hoping someone out there has experienced the same issue and can offer a solution. When using certain dies they leave black marks around the cut edge of my paper or card. I've tried putting waxed paper between the die and paper but it doesn't work. I've tried sanding off the marks afterwards but this just roughs up the edge of my paper. I've washed the dies, I've changed cutting plates, added and removed shims but all without success. I even wrote to Big Shot but received no response. I'd be grateful for any advice on this. I've even considered replacing my dies but as I have a card making business this could prove expensive. Many thanks.
I would try some copy paper (which is really thin paper so it isn't affecting the sandwich very much in your machine) between the die and the cardstock you want to cut and see if that helps. I have some navy blue Marianne dies that do that which is really annoying and using copy paper helped.
Thanks for that. I have some 80gsm copy paper, I'll give it a try. When I'm making baby cards using pastel colours the marks really show up, so I need a solution.
I would absolutely call Sizzix or Ellison customer service. If you have the same problem with different dies, then I would point to the paper, not the machine. Not all paper is the same. I'm not talking about the weight, but more so the brand or type. For example, at one time, I used Stampin' Up cardstock exclusively. Then I needed some 110 lb paper. I went to Michael's and bought their 110 lb white cardstock. It was not good for what I wanted. Then I ordered another brand thru Amazon which was recommended right here on SCS and got the results I wanted. I still have that Michael's store brand paper to this very day. I use it for different things.
I even found info on paper quality through sites on weight conversion.
If it is only certain dies, consider who the manufacturer is. Maybe low quality metal leaving marks? Are the dies all from the same company? Also, you said you washed the dies, but maybe try alcohol to clean? Hope you figure it out.
It's not you machine it's the dies. I tried to copy and paste but not working. There is a thread in General Stamping Forum called help with spellbinder die posted on 12-5-22.
give it a look. Gives information to problem you are having..
I also have this problem with some of my dies. I have found with time the marks left do lighten up.

Just a thought/suggestion if cleaning the dies doesn't work try applying some clear nail polish to the surface of the die that marks it might create enough of a barrier. It may wear off in time and need reapplying. Two thin coats might work better than one thick one too. I don't think it would affect the cutting edge but try one before doing others.
Thank you! I don't know why i wasn't able to post thread.

No worries! I was interested in the topic, so I looked for the thread as per your instructions, and then just copied the url. It's an interesting issue, and I must remember the copy paper trick myself, as this occasionally happens to me, too!
Also, I would tell you to be careful of the dies you buy and from whom. **** would never be on my list, for example.
I have dies that are very old, like the old Sizzix dies. Never a problem. Also Spellbinder dies from early 2000's. They still cut on my machine which is old too, although I have several electronic die cutters including the Geminis....all three😬😬😐
My answer about the paper being the problem was because I thought you were using different brands.
