I agree with the do not buy cheap things or things just because they are on sale. I would try to find a couple of demos for different companies and try out as many tools as you can before purchasing....

We have a small group at that level at our church but this summer they did melted crayon art on inexpensive flat canvas, They LOVED it. I am pretty sure the director found it on pinterest.
