Embossing help needed

I am trying to heat emboss and the powder keep sticking to all the paper around the versamarked image. I do not have the embossing buddy, but after tonight, I am definately getting it on my next...

How far into the paper can these punches reach? Right now I have some CM one's and they don't go in very far so I can't really use them to make windows in cards. Can anyone help me?
