This art journal page is for Cathy's Ways to Use It Challenge. Check it out Here and come and play.
I keep an inventory of all craft items I've purchased so to find out my oldest stamp all I had to do was look at my list. I started as a scrapbooker over 20+ years ago so it was no surprise that the first stamp set was a Project Life one with a calendar and arrows.
I also chose the next 2 stamp sets on the list, one again being for scrapbooking and on sentiments and the third was my first foray into cardmaking and when I attended a CTMH workshop. The stamp set is borders and would have been my choice at the time, again for scrapping. When I got the stamp set out I immediately remembered my experience with it. The first stamp broke in parts and the CTMH demo told me that I had been heavy handed. It is the only stamp set I have (and I have a lot *wink*) that has done this. When I took another border out it immediately disintegrated and all of them are like jelly...yuk. If I didn't like most of the borders I would throw it away but for now it sits with the rest and forgotten until challenges such as this come along. Thanks Cathy.
I have recently undertaken an art journalling class through FB and thought I would make another page that could go at the front of my journal.
The middle panel was in my stash and had been made by rolling and swiping paints across it and stencilling. I often use panels I've made previously and which can be modified to fit the theme and colours.
The sentiment on the corner was stamped first, followed by the calendar, arrows and other sentiments. The stamping didn't come out as clean and probably because I didn't test the stamps first *wink* but I'm ok with them and a tip is to touch up black ink with a journalling pen when stamping is crappy lol.
I had another panel in my stash covered in blue paint; stamped that and die cut it into a circle. Added washi tape and painted a BG panel using black and orange paints with my brayer. Stamped a border around the edges. It came together very quickly and I love the texture and effects I got.
It was fun to finally break the seal again on the very first stamp set I purchased. I think only one arrow had been used previously...eek! I know I have a lot that haven't seen the light of day since I bought them.
Come and play in the challenge and reacquaint yourself with your very first stamp set.
TFL Happy day

Very cool way to use calendar stamps - now I want some! LOL! Love how you put all this together. Impressive.
But what is really impressive is that you have an inventory of all your stamps. Amazing. If I had one, it would not help as I would still not know where they are! LOL
Very fun, my friend. Hugz

This is fabulous Jayne, and I did nod my head reading that story about those stamps from that time frame, I did not have good luck with mine either. ( I no longer have the first bunch of "clear" stamps I bought from Technique Tuesday or CTMH they all went in the bin) So, I am impressed you salvaged yours. I love the texture the paint brings to this page a lot too
