Collaging Carrie

Even before I read the write up about today's IC, I knew where this gallery was because I've been there! I've visited Holland, MI often and know that the art community there is very vibrant. The name of the gallery is the clue: lake effect is very much present in the minds of those who live near the Great Lakes. On my side in SE WI, the lake kept us warmer in winter, cooler in summer. The other side, like in Holland, is much more effected by lake effect snow, which I was always glad we didn't have much of that on our side. I miss the lake, now that I live on the other side of the state.
In looking through the galleries, I was very taken with Carrie Rodgers-O'Neal's work and this is what I chose: https://lakeeffectgallery.com/collec...s-and-leaves-i
No way could I paint this so I decided to do a collage of materials I had in my stash that I thought would work. I love the technique duoprinting chlorophyll and had some stash pieces. I was looking for something else but came across two of those. They both were not great but I thought I could use them. So the base is one print, don't know what the plant was, and I cut the leaves out of the second one. Sprayed the background piece with a few different sprays to get some of her blues and greens. Then I found a camouflage piece made with metallics so cut some branches and tore some pieces from that. Added some Nuvo Drops. That's it.
I'm still so excited about Denise's choice for the IC. Maybe I can do more, although I have a lot going on today. More siding is going up on my house!!!!! Thanks for the challenge, Denise. By the way, one of the other artists, Kate Moynihan, had a gallery right on the main drag in Holland. Gallery closed but she is still creating. A year ago, her art was chosen for the Tulip Time poster. Love her stuff.

This is so pretty and atmospheric; you've done a great job of interpreting that inspiration you chose.
I live just about an hour Southeast of Holland and have spent so much time at the beaches there over the years, and also shopping the delightful downtown. I will definitely be scouting out this store!

Love your interpretation of her beautiful art piece. I especially like how you captured the colors. The lake does give our state some beautiful scenery. Tfs

From the thumbnail, I knew I was going to like this! So pretty and so much texture - I just want to touch it!! Here along Lake Erie, we are in the leading edge of the snow belt. Luckily it goes over Fairport and dumps just a mile away. Strange what the Great Lakes can do to the weather.

I love the piece that inspired you and what you have done with it. I knew it would be spectacular. I loved reading your connection to Holland, MI. I remember a trip I took to St. Clair, MI many years ago and seeing Darla's (Spanky's girlfriend) house. Telling my age:>) Love your card.
