WCW082 Hand drawn Snowflakes
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: bubblestx4

First off, scary to think we will be drawing free hand snowflakes today when I have a drawer full of lovely snowflake stamps (lol) but the video artist makes it look SO easy! Laid down my shades of blue bg with the # 8 round brush and spattered some China white into it while it was still wet. While this dried, I practiced drawing some simple snowflakes with a pencil - okay - not so hard - now to do it on my painting with a brush. I do not have White Gouache (maybe my Christmas gift to me) so went back to the China White watercolor which gives a much softer transparent look and started to paint with my #4 Long Round. Let me say that although I find these super long bristles hard to control, this brush actually draws a much finer line than it's #2 cousin and the only reason I own it is because I got it early on in this watercolor journey and had no clue what to buy. So - snowflakes a bit wonky - yep but I'm saying that gives them character - that's my story and I'm sticking to it LOL

Yes Linda they look like mine before but your background is darker so it shows up better I think, I like yours very much, you've got a real contrast, I like the splatters too and the white embossed sentiment

I know right? I love how delicate yours turned out Linda, I am hoping with more practice I will have a lighter hand with the brush ;)

Love it!!!! I kept thinking how can I make these snowflakes look like they are coming down and being blown by the wind. You did it by doing your brushstrokes horizontally. Need to remember that next time. Your snowflakes really are delicate with the fine strokes. Interesting how the #4 brush gives you those fine lines. Again you conquered the challenge with a wonderful creation. TFS

They do have character. They're so fun. I thought that the other Linda's snowflakes reminded me of the opening credits of the Grinch cartoon and yours do too. Paired with that "Welcome Christmas" sentiment, you've got me singing the Whos' song. I think you nailed this!

Don't have gouache either, I used acrylic ink. I think I need gouache too. Maybe we should buy each other some...I love wonky!!

Really love your snowflakes. It was hard to get enough of the gouache into the mix to get a good white snowflake and get it thin enough to paint with the fine brush. I ended up going over a lot of mine a second time to get them whiter. Love the sentiment you used with them.
