Fabulous Birthday
Added to Favorite

Photo Details
Poster: donnaks

This card was made for a sketch challenge whose optional theme was "bold & bright".

The diagonal element in the sketch at first gave me pause, but when I thought about using the hibiscus flower from the Stampin' Up! (SU) "Humming Along" stamp set as my focal point, it all came together.

The background was cut as two pieces, then temporarily taped on the back so I could run it through my Big Shot inside the embossing folder. I then glued the two pieces down to the black card base.

The black stitched circle was die cut, then attached to the front using foam strips to raise it up and add dimension.

The hibiscus was stamped on white cardstock with black ink, then colored with Copic markers. I then scanned and cut out the flower with a 0.4" border using my digital cutting machine. Finally I coated it with a glossy liquid.

While the flower was drying, I stamped the sentiment onto black cardstock using Versamark ink. I then dusted it with white detail embossing powder, and heat set it. It was then trimmed to the size to fit where the sketch required it, and glued down.

After the flower was dry I hand bend the petals back to make it look more realistic and attached it with super strong Scor-Tape in the middle only to allow the petals to be raised.

I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" because of the need to carefully cut the two diagonal pieces to fit perfectly, and to hand color the flower.

Beautiful! I love how you highlighted the hibiscus with the black circle diecut. And I'm sure the glossy accents are even more striking IRL. The choice of the mosaic ef adds wonderful texture. Love the diagonals. TFS.
