 | | I wanted a bold birthday card for a card challenge and decided these Stampin' Up! (SU) hibiscus blossoms would be perfect for a feminine birthday.
The flowers were stamped from the SU "Humming Along" set using black ink, then lightly colored SU Groovy Guava using a blending brush. The flower was then shaded and highlighted using Copic markers as listed below. I then fussy cut out each of the blossom, then coated them with Ranger Glossy Accents liquid to give them a shiny finish. The photo turned out nice, but the flowers in person are truly fabulous!
While the flowers were drying, I cut out a 4-3/4"x 6-3/4" piece of SU Calypso Coral cardstock and embossed it with a pretty embossing folder called "Mosaic 3D". This was glued to the card base.
A stitched circle was die cut using the largest circle die in the set, then glued onto the front of the card. By then, the flowers were dry, so each was placed on the black circle in a pleasing arrangement and attached ONLY at their centers with a small piece of Scor-Tape. I gently bent the ends of the petals back to give the flowers a more realistic form.
The black circle with the attached flowers was then attached to the front of the card using foam tape. The sentiment was heat embossed with white embossing powder onto a scrap of black cardstock, then attached to the card front using foam tape.
I think it makes for a beautiful feminine birthday card, and can't wait to send it! I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" because of the need to hand color the flowers and fussy cut them out. |
