Non-Traditional Christmas

This is a Design Team card for Try Stampin' on Tuesday Challenge #385: https://trystampinontuesday.blogspot.com

The challenge was to use the sketch, and create a non-traditional Christmas card. I thought that starting out with a non-traditional plaid would set the tone, and help define the color palette for the card. The sketch also reminded me of a cool Sizzix filmstrip die I hadn't used in a while that would work really well. I created the required sketch "tail" to the filmstrip by cutting a piece of black cardstock the same width as the filmstrip, then using the "Banners" framelits die to die cut the tail. It was trimmed to length with a paper trimmer.

Since it IS a Christmas card, I had to have something that spoke of the holidays, so turned to my 1999 retired Stampin' Up! (SU) "Holiday Sampler" set which included 30 different small holiday stamps to choose from that all fit into the filmstrip openings. The three I chose were stamped in not-quite shades of traditional colors (SU Wild Wasabi, Cherry Cobbler, Marina Mist) onto SU Whisper White cardstock that had been trimmed to fit inside the filmstrip frames. Note that to center the stamped images, I used a temporary adhesive to position the white cardstock behind the black filmstrip to do my stamping. I also used my MISTI to allow me to center the images, as well as stamp multiple times to create a solid inked image.

Keeping the non-traditional theme, the card base is the standard 5.5"x 8.5" SU Marina Mist cardstock folded in half. To the card front I glued the plaid panel positioned centered, but to the far right. Then glued the the stamped images panel to the back of the filmstrip, and then the assembled strip was glued to the card centered over the plaid panel, but also to the far right.

The card came together quite quickly, so I am rating the difficulty level as "1" out of a possible "5".

Wow, I love all the non-traditional things you did on this card! I'm a fan of using the not-quite-Christmas colors that you described and here they show off beautifully. That plaid is the perfect backdrop for this great card!
