Well, it's taken me an entire month to get this done, because I tend to work in spurts, especially when there is drying time required between steps. I started this at the beginning of May for technique challenge #636 - May baskets. The basket is made from folded strips of newspaper, woven together. I coated it with gesso and then painted it.
I followed the gilded relief tutorial to make motifs for the sides. These are made from flower punches (white card stock) and a new Tim Holtz scroll die (cereal box chipboard & card stock). I shaped the flowers a bit with styluses. These were all coated with gesso and painted. I used tacky glue to hold everything together. Once the side motifs were in place, I rubbed them with a metallic copper rub. Then the entire basket was given a coat of matte mod podge.
The basket is approximately 6" square and 3" tall. Although not quite as solid as a paper mache box you could purchase at a craft store, it is quite sturdy with all the coats of gesso, paint & mod podge. I'm really pleased with how it turned out.
