 | | Made for Create with Connie and Mary Color Challenge #434: http://www.createwithconnieandmary.com/ which required the use of the colors: Cherry Cobbler, Delightful Dijon, and Crumb Cake.
I wanted to try making a "negative image" of a snow man with dry embossed snowflakes falling all around him, so I custom made my own 3-layer cardboard template by punching out two circles positioned like a snowman, then running white cardstock through the Gently Falling embossing folder with the cardboard template sandwich underneath the folder so the snowman shape would be left unembossed (see SCS Double Embossing tutorial at: Double Embossing Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers ).
Since the snowflakes get more an more sparse at the top of the embossing folder, I had to run the white cardstock through vertically, then on each side of the snowman with blank cardboard sandwiches to make the snow heavy (and thereby show up the snowman outline more distinctly).
The Owl Punch was used for the eyes, mouth, buttons and heart of the snowman. I used the branch die from the Flower Field set to die-cut two "arms". Since the leaves are rounded on the die, I used scissors to trim each leaf to make the arms more stick-like.
The nose was cut with a scissors from the corner of a scrap piece of Delightful Dijon.
The snowman's scarf was made by using an Exacto Knife to cut two slits where his neck would be, then threading a scrap piece of red ribbon and tacking the knot down with a Mini Glue Dot.
The sentiment was stamped in Cherry Cobbler on Whisper White and punched out with the SU Modern Label punch. Its Cherry Cobbler mat was cut using a Nestabilities Label One Die, then re-positioning the punched out piece back into the die a second time positioning it so it cut out a matting that would leave top and bottom matting showing that was symmetric all around the white label.
The completed front panel was glued with double matting of Delightful Dijon and Cherry Cobbler onto a Crumb Cake card base.
I gave this card a difficulty rating of "3" because of the need to create the 3-layer cardboard template for the snowman, and special cutting of the modified red matting for the sentiment. |
