This card is for the Mix2 challenge to make a card using an emboss resist technique. I usually "resist" this kind of challenge, (ha!) but really enjoyed this one.
I started with a navy blue cs, brushed baby blue acrylic paint diagonally over that, leaving a wee bit of navy showing. Then I stamped the bg frame image with Versamark and used clear ep. Next, I sponged close to cocoa all over the embossed frame, and slightly into the blank center. (I love how that step turned out!) Finally found a pre-punched kraft piece and a precut tan piece with the cross already stamped. The whole thing was attached to a white (I know - it looks blue!) cs base. I'm thinking this will make a nice sympathy card for a dear friend who lost his brother this morning.
A few notes: (1) I really should look in that shoebox overflowing with large bg stamps more often. I don't know if I've ever used this frame before, but I really like it. (2) I have been cleaning, sorting, and organizing scraps, precuts, pre-punches, and pre-stamped pieces and am going to try to use a lot of them in my next cards. I was able to find these two right away when I knew that I wanted to use them on this card. (3) I don't know what you would call this style, but I think I'm going to try to do more of it.
This card is also for the F4A155 to use blues and browns. In fact it was this challenge that gave me the idea for the Mix2 challenge as I knew I had some baby blue acrylic paint as well as the kraft & tan pieces.
Since I used scraps, the card also qualifies for the AOCC13C challenge to use up some stuff from our scrap stash.

very nice....love all the layers of colors you used to get that lovely frame....and yes, it does make things go a little faster if you at least know which bin the scraps are in....teehee...I keep mine limited to a 2 drawer caddy so I must get some of them used up so it will at least close.....I think this would be a wonderful sympathy card...

Val, this is awesome! Wow, you are ready for anything and any style and so successful at them! Love how that background looks and even with the blues and browns that cross appears to have a glow around it. What a beautiful card for your friend!
I'm glad you didn't resist this challenge - it's gorgeous! I never would have thught to sponge brown over top of the embossing, never mind into the center. It adds richness, and shadowy depths. All in all, a beautiful card. Thanks for sharing.
