This journal page is for Robin's terrific Free for All challenge, where YOU get to decide what National Day to celebrate.
I don't think tutu's and ballerina dresses were common dress-ups when I was a child, however I do know I spent many years wearing my Annie Oakley skirt, my Florence Nightingdale cape and my treasured Mickey Mouse ears - looking back I've always been a little weirdo. With two brothers and living in a country town, it's no wonder I was born a tomboy LOL.
Maybe those formative rough and tumble years are the reason why I chose this National day to celebrate, it is completely opposite to my childhood.
I love the elegance and grace of a ballerina and let's face it, who wouldn't love to put on a tutu or a flowing ballerina dress for a minute or two. Having said that, how cool would it be to go back in time and wear your Annie Oakley skirt, your cape and mouse ears just one more time.
Okie dokie, about this journal page. This is a single digi image by Mo's Digital Pencil. To print the group of dancers, I copied the original sized image and then pasted it 5 times. I reduced the image to 50% for the little ballerina and I enlarged the image to about 200% for the big girl (and I cut her legs off), I also stuck her on the page at a slightly different angle.
All of the images are just done on photo copy paper, coloured with Prismacolour pencils, blended with Zest-It and highlighted with a Copic marker, then fussy cut. The big girls body is also copy paper, but her skirt is card stock, coloured with Gelato's, Crayons and a swish of an Ecoline water marker - spritzed with water, then shaped to suit the journal page. All of the images were adhered to the black cardstock using a glue stick, making sure that the entire image is covered with the glue stick, this prevents air bubbles.
Thank you for looking and I hope you get some crafty alone time so that you can join in. I can't wait to see what your National Day is.

Spectacular work, Susie. You really got creative with this one....loved reading how you made this card. This is much more elegant than Annie Oakley. Ha You're a creative genius. Into my faves, of course.

Oh, precious sis! You are AMAZING and pure genius! Such an artist you are, and you do delight us all and are a real treasure to SCS...and to me! I love how you've created this most amazing tribute to National Ballerina Day, and I love how you've done it...and am so proud of you. But I knew you could use digis well. It's the actual design and execution that is brilliant! What beautiful colors, and I love how these gals are dancing against the black drapes in the theatre! I can almost hear the music playing so softly! Love you to bits, sis! Hugs! xoxo

um.....um......um.........I'm speechless! (won't last) How Outstanding this is!!! LOVE the contrast of the black background! Your carefully executed coloring enhances the gracefulness of the girls too. Perfect color combination! Thanks for another Fantastical creation!
Did Geoff help you carry in the gigantic magnifying glass you used to do that intricate fussy cutting, especially between all the little fingers. Have your eyes uncrossed yet???
Mulling over your comments on your attire as a wee one a small lever clicked in somewhere back in the nether regions of my memory. One of my favorite things I had back then was a Minnie Mouse mask I got to wear for Halloween in the early 50's. It was made of some sort of black mesh fabric that had been shaped and painted (?) to appear "real". That meant that the nose actually stuck out about 3 inches in front of my face. I wore it all day on Halloween and many days after. The mesh fabric covered my whole face, with an elastic band going around the back of my head. I could breathe while wearing it, but my breathing under that fabric caused the inside of the mask to become very moist...to say the least. But I wouldn't give up wearing it. I believe my DH feels I'm stubborn. Could be. After a week or so the beautiful nose began wilting downward. Didn't deter me in the least...but it did cause me to breathe deeper in order to breathe at all because it finally did fold down leaving me less breathing space. One day my beloved mask had disappeared. I suspect my mother. I was devastated! I suppose people call this a learning experience. Anyway, I got over it. I was reminded that everyone that had seen me wearing it called me MICKEY Mouse and I felt I had to vehemently correct them (aren't little kids sweet when they're all indignant?). What? Couldn't they see the beautifully curved and alluring (big word for a little tike) eyelashes on my mask? I was MINNIE Mouse!!! So at least I didn't have to put up with all the ignorant know-nothings any longer. Fair trade. Thanks for dragging me through my memories.
