This card was made for a sketch challenge that required a rainbow as well.
Of course, my mind immediately turned to the retired Stampin' Up! (SU) "Rainbow Builder" dies, and instead of a flower the cute unicorn with a rainbow mane and tail!
I started by cutting the card base to be a horizontal side-opening style (4-1/2"x 11" folded in half). I then cut approximately half of the front face of the card base off so you could see the top half of the inside of the card when it is folded closed.
Next I stamped the unicorn, then colored her with Copic markers (listed below). I also used a blending brush and light gray ink to shade her so she wasn't flat white. I used her matching die to cut her out, then cut two more outlines of her with the die from the same thick white cardstock. I glued the two blanks behind her to make her have dimension.
Next, I used the cloud dies from the "Rainbow Builder" dies to cut two long clouds out of white cardstock, and adding light blue shadows to both clouds using a blending brush. Note, that I didn't want the two clouds to mirror one another, so I used the reverse side of the die cut for the card front, and the front-facing die cut for inside the card. This gave some great depth to the card with the inside cloud peaking our around the front cloud. (See the second posting for this card for the inside view).
Finally, I used sentiment stamps from the SU "Endless Birthday Wishes" for the greeting. I stamped these on white cardstock, then used the small cloud die from the rainbow die set to position the words strategically in the clouds so I could overlap them on the front of the card. These two small clouds were also shaded with light blue ink. Both the long cloud and the "lovely" clouds were mounted on the front of the lower half flap of the card front using adhesive foam tape for dimension. Note that before I adhered the clouds I cut a piece of light blue cardstock to cover the white card base flap so it looked like sky. I chose the heavier white cardstock to ensure stability of the flap so it wouldn't sag once I attached on the elements to the card front.
The inside of the card was done by gluing light blue cardstock to the inside that would be seen when the card is closed. Then I glued down the 7 rainbow arches, the long cloud, and the tiny cloud in the upper right.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5".
