What a fun site Susan has introduced us to! I went back and forth between 3-4 authors before choosing John Steinbeck. I think I've read most of his books and they've had great influence on me. My favorites are The Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden, and Of Mice and Men. My card is based on the first one. I altered two playing cards by painting them with gesso, then stamping with various bg stamps, and sewing around the edges. I also added some distress glaze for added texture. The truck image reminded me of the Joad family making their way from OK to CA. The bg was made by gluing many pieces of old books and then applying gesso mixed with reinker. I added some distressed cardboard on alternate corners. The quote is actually from another book but I thought it worked here. I really had fun putting this together. Thanks Susan for the wonderful challenge.

Fab card, Polly, I really like all the muted colours and vintage look. The altered playing cards look super. I think The Pearl is the only Steinbeck I've ever read, I'm afraid to admit. From your write-up, that is something I should rectify, whenever our libraries open again.

What a wonderful collage. I love the quote. My DH has that problem from the quote not only with people, but about everything he needs to find. There are just so many good things in this card to look at.

Wow, all those distressed surfaces just scream Dust Bowl. The distressed cardboard reminds me of old buildings, and the woman could be straight from a Doorthea Lange photo. Well done.

Polly, I loved your card as well as the stories about Steinbeck! I debated between Steinbeck and Fitzgerald...lt was a hard decision.....I love John as well as F. Scott Fitzgerald.....not an easy decision...Love what you did with Steinbeck as I read every book he wrote...I am in awe what you did with Steinbeck! Your card is fabulous!

I have not read any of John Steinbeck books. Now I am intrigued....just wish I had more time to read books rather than training materials. This is a great vintage feeling card too Polly.
