Jacqueline is hosting a very special 80th birthday teaparty for Annie, mum of our very own Snietje. The pressure is on, can you imagine how many beautiful cards Annie would have received over the years!
Annie was born in 1940, the year nylon stockings were first sold to the public. Jacqueline has challenged us to be inspired by something made from nylon and/or Annie's love of fashion.
Several years ago I found a beautiful glossy paged book "The Australian Woman's Weekly Fashion - The First 50 Years". I chose the background picture from the 1940's section, this was the magazine cover from September, 1947. The Julie Nutting gown is probably not true to the era, but nylon was used in the making.
I brayed several turquoise and aqua metallic paints onto my gelli plate, then quickly placed copy paper on top and pulled my first print, making sure I left a lot of paint still on the gelli plate. I then placed a piece of nylon tulle on the plate, brayed on a bit more paint and did a second pull with copy paper. I rtepeated the process until I was happy (and ended up with a lovely stash).
Once dry I stamped the JD girl and fussy cut her gown.
The JD doll was stamped onto copy paper and coloured with pencils and a Copic, fussy cut, adhered to the background, then placed her gown on. The ribbon is 100% silk - it was tightly wound around a little cardboard spool, so I got the iron out and gave it a press - this is going to Snietje's mum afterall.
Because the skirt is made with paper, it easily folds inside the card for posting, and swished back into place on arrival. I was also able to "pinch" some seams when adhering the gown using a glue stick.
International mail is taking forever, Annie might be 81 before this arrives, so I will make it a "hello" card. Thank you for looking and I hope your are able to send TEApotter greetings to Annie in The Netherlands.
