This is for Polly's fun mixed media challenge using things found around the house.
The washing machine was making funny clunking noises, and on closer inspection I found a small wire brush - thank you finders keepers! I digress, I instantly thought I could use it for Polly's challenge.
I applied just about every ink and paint I own, slowly building up the layers so it was nice and thick. I then mixed some boot polish with sand and rubbed it on, using stencils in some places.
The boot polish kept coming off so I added some gold sealer and some bicarb soda, then I attacked the whole thing with the wire brush.
I road tested a scrap first and found it was important to sand in one direction only, otherwise it kind of ate the page. I also tried an electric sander, it not only ate the paper, but I now have a bald patch on my rubber craft mat LOL
I worked more gently when doing these pages with the wire brush and sandpaper. The effect is a grainy like mist.
I bought a packet of the Tim Holtz people about a year ago, and they are finally having an outing. The pages are quite dark and moody, perfect for these characters.
I had so much fun making this. Thank you for looking and stay safe.
