This is for Polly's fun mixed media challenge using things found around the house.
The washing machine was making funny clunking noises, and on closer inspection I found a small wire brush - thank you finders keepers! I digress, I instantly thought I could use it for Polly's challenge.
I applied just about every ink and paint I own, slowly building up the layers so it was nice and thick. I then mixed some boot polish with sand and rubbed it on, using stencils in some places.
The boot polish kept coming off so I added some gold sealer and some bicarb soda, then I attacked the whole thing with the wire brush.
I road tested a scrap first and found it was important to sand in one direction only, otherwise it kind of ate the page. I also tried an electric sander, it not only ate the paper, but I now have a bald patch on my rubber craft mat LOL
I worked more gently when doing these pages with the wire brush and sandpaper. The effect is a grainy like mist.
I bought a packet of the Tim Holtz people about a year ago, and they are finally having an outing. The pages are quite dark and moody, perfect for these characters.
I had so much fun making this. Thank you for looking and stay safe.

So fun. I can just imagine you layering up the paints and sanding them down. Wish I would have been there. The colors and effect are very cool. So glad the dolls got to come out and play! Hugz

A-MA-ZING!!! Another Susie Masterpiece! The colors are Fantastic! And your positioning of everything is just Perfect. It's nice to see proof that men really DO grow on trees. That's more reassuring than "There's more than one fish in the sea" which many women who don't like putting worms on a hook are told by well-meaning people after a breakup.
I felt like I was walking a little on the wild side when I pulled some stuffing out of that pillowy head rest on our recliner to use as smoke spewing out of an old train die I put on a card. An Electric Sander???..........You WIN! I was going to ask you if Geoff had signed the commitment papers yet, but thought better of it.

Well it looks like your mojo has returned reinvigorated...and with power tools no less! Your creation is stunning. Love all the details throughout the layout. And the affects you achieve are amazing. And, as a bonus, I got a hugh laugh and much enjoyment working through the process with you. Hmmmm, I wonder if hubby will share his power tools with me? Probably not. LOL.

I have yet to master MultiMedia at any level so this is amazing to me. Also, your dialogue has me in stitches. You are one person I would love to craft with, as I suspect much laughter would ensue. Thanks for sharing your art and keeping us uplifted.

Oh my, Susie, your description of how you created this wonderful, quirky work of art is hysterical! I laughed so hard when I read about you sanding a bald spot into your craft mat, that DH came in the craft room to find out what was so funny?! (He didn't get it...lol!) You really do need to make videos of your creative process! Hugs!

Another amazing masterpiece. Such a soft and dreamy background from all that fabulous Inventive creativity.
I have many of these dolls because I also bought a couple of packs looking for new characters ( consequently sending off some to other crafters in RAK’s). If they had found a home with you they would have had a great adventure. I have missed seeing your work (my fault) for not checking in sooner.
I echo everyone’s fondness for the naughty boy climbing the tree. Your positioning of all the characters is wonderful.
Not sure what would happen if I got ahold of a sander let alone a wire brush. I did bring a silicone scrubber up from the kitchen. Hope to feature that soon in something. For the zillionth time you have inspired me.
