Thanks for a lovely Teaparty sweet Lisa girl. This week our cards are going to Irene in Canada, mum of our SCS Dockside aka Ann.
Irene is about to celebrate her 99th birthday. I figured with the postage problems this time of the year, I would create a 'hello" card instead of a belated birthday card.
Irene loves jigsaw puzzles, hence this design. I was rarely growled at as a little tacker, but I do remember getting into dreadful trouble when I cut up several jigsaw puzzle pieces to fit them in. One could argue that I was innovative - that's not how mum and dad saw it. Apparently Mikey Mouse must have 2 ears at all times!
This Gel Plate Impressionism technique reminds me of adapting puzzle pieces to fit. Lydia has a fun video tutorial in the MIX295 challenge. I modified it a wee bit.
The background is made with a gelli plate, copy paper, reinkers and acrylic paint. Once nice and dry, tear up the paper and adhere to cardstock. I used Crayola school glue, poured into a pot, then brushed it on the back of the pieces of torn paper with an el cheapo brush.
Working with copy paper on a gelli plate is great, it is cheap as chips and if you are not happy with the impression you haven't ruined a sheet of cardstock.
You need to be quick though, otherwise it's a bit like putting a magazine on a wet counter top - hours of trying to get those itty bits of paper off - well not exactly hours but you know what I mean.
You also need to be gentle when rubbing the paper, there is not need to pound it like you are flattening a chicken thigh!
The Sherri Baldy - My Besties image is coloured with Distress Inks and an aqua brush, then darker highlights were made with Copic marker.
Thanks very much for looking and an especially big thank you to Teapot TEAm who bring our teaparty requests to life each week. Thank you so much Jacqueline, Sabrina, Polly, Pat, Snietje, Lisa and Jean.
Merry Christmas everyone.
