This is my card for MMTPT405 "There's No Place Like Home" - to create a card based on The Wizard of Oz to send to another teapotter. It's tickle week!
Immediately, the song lyrics "Somewhere over the rainbow, bluebirds fly" came to mind, and it was a perfect opportunity to use a technique showcased in the Online Card Class Sheer and Clear. The class focuses on ways to use vellum and acetate in your projects.
The rainbow background was created by going direct to vellum with the Distress pads, and smoothing and blending it with a soft towel or rag. You can be as subtle or as intense as you like, depending on how much ink you use. The ink is on the back side of the vellum. If you have a heavyweight vellum, you can use it as the actual card front, but I knew I would be adding embellishments, so I die cut the piece and attached to the card base with 1/8th inch Simply defined tape. It practically disappears behind the color and the stitch lines from the die.
The sentiment was stamped in VersaMark on another piece of vellum and heat embossed with white powder. After die cutting, I arranged a few sequins and some of the birds on the strip and attached them with Art Glitter adhesive. When everything was dry, I put glue dots on the back of the strip, hiding them behind the sequins and birds, and carefully attached it to the card base. I added a few more birds and sequins to the card base.
Just FYI, I started coloring my birds with a spray ink and then glittered them. I hated them, so I turned them over and dabbed them with a Spectrum Noir marker to turn them into bluebirds
As always, thanks for looking!

I'm glad I decided to comment on the TPT gallery before turning the PC on and posting my favourites, because this is going straight there. What a wonderful, wonderful take on birds flying over the rainbow.
