Looking back, I wish I had done more of Debbie's muted background design and more of the IC picture's yellow and green tones. I was going for icy and I think I got it.
My background was done with a layer of tea bags so linking it to MMJ09 which is Playing with teabags) - it also has the tea leaves mixed in too. Here is my steps:
Gesso down the tea bags.
Second layer of gesso sprinkle in tea leaves
Third layer of gesso.
Layer of brown paint (completely cover)
Squirt on some blue paint and spread around
Squirt on some off-white acrylic paint and spread around
Squirt on some white paint and spread around
Stencil on numbers and words with texture paste
Stamp on script font background
Stamp on snowflakes (broken china so you have to look closely)
Spatter on Snow tex
Fun!
Congrats, Debbie. I know you will love seeing others inspired by your creations. Have fun!

Yes, you certainly did reach your goal of "icy"! Wow, I just love this art journal page and loved reading about your techniques! Loved that you used the old key from your Pop's house ... I'm sure it has special meaning for you!

mdf, the first thing my eyes saw was the KEY. I just knew it must be significant. And of course it is! Your journal page is glorious period Debbie's lovely page certainly has inspired lots of thought.
I love the hope of Spring (rebirth) that your wintery work foretells. Wonderful.

Oh Nancy, I am glad you didn't change a thing because this is gorgeous and so inspirational. I LOVE the blue/brown combo. It is icy, indeed, but it evokes a beauty that warms the heart. You've pushed me to get gesso; you've pushed me to try journal pages; I guess the next step is paint...maybe...I'm such a klutz I will probably paint my rug. LOL.
The key is so perfect on this page with that sentiment because I think your Pop was his own kind of miracle. I suspect you are a miracle in the lives of your family and friends too. You certainly spread much love and joy with your beautiful cards and journal pages.
