This card was made for Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge #474 ( http://atlanticheartschallenge.blogs...ketch-474.html ). When I saw the sketch I thought it would make a great masculine card. Looking through my paper stash I found the retired Stampin' Up! (SU) "Going Places" pattern paper with all kinds of luscious papers that would go great with a sailing ship. I chose three, then went looking for a ship stamp. I found the retired 2011 SU set called "The Open Sea" that had a schooner that would be perfect. I stamped it onto an ivory scrap of cardstock using SU Island Indigo ink. I'm not sure why it looks more like an aqua in the photo, while in person it matches the card base color... oh well, the vagaries of natural sunlight on cardstock versus ink. I fussy cut the ship out with paper snips.

Since the sketch required a horizontal element in the center of the card, I used a dark navy so it wouldn't stand out a lot in the design. The three vertical pattern panels each measure 1-3/16" wide. The sentiment die cut was cut three times... once with the sentiment (from SU "Beautiful World") centered, then because I wanted it much less tall, I positioned the die below the top of the cut and cut again, then moved the die down to cut off the same amount at the bottom of the die cut. The matting was cut using the same die in its original size.

The card was then assembled using liquid glue, except for foam tape behind the ivory sentiment piece and ship for depth.

I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" due to the need to fussy cut the ship and to do multiple die cuts to create the sentiment piece. I think the card would be perfect for a graduation, a new job, or any new life endeavor your special guy might be undertaking.
