This card was made for a sketch challenge whose optional theme was "things that fly". I thought about doing birds, then decided to go out of my comfort zone and turned the sketch 180 degrees and used hot air balloons for my "flying" elements.
I started by choosing two different patterns of paper for my "ground" and "sky" from Stampin' Up! (SU) retired "Carried Away" Designer Series Paper (DSP). This established my color scheme.
I chose the reddish SU Melon Mambo ink to stamp my hot air balloons... one on Bumble Bee and the other on Mint Macaron. They were die cut with their matching SU die set "Up & Away".
After gluing my two pattern pieces down, I felt the transition from land to sky was too harsh, so used two different shades of gray to die cut out a mountain range on the horizon using the SU "Horizon" die set. The "snow" was die cut from white cardstock. The mountain range further away was done with the darker gray cardstock.
I used foam dots to attach the balloons to give them more of a floating look. The birds in the sky where the bow sketch element was located were created by die cutting black cardstock using the SU "Waves" die set.
Finally, the sentiment was stamped in black onto white cardstock, then die cut with Sizzix label dies. The sentiment piece was attached using foam dots as well.
I made this card with the intent to send to one of my "chemo buddies" to brighten their day. If you are interested in being a buddy to a chemo patient by sending them a card each week, I urge you to sign up at the web site https://www.chemoangels.com/
I am rating the difficulty level for this card as a "2" out of "5" since all the steps were really straight forward.
