This card was made for a sketch challenge that also has the optional theme of "anchors away". Right away I thought of my Stampin' Up! (SU) "High Tide" stamp set with it's wonderful lighthouse and supportive sentiment stamps.
I started by stamping the two-step lighthouse onto white cardstock using the retired SU Blue Bayou ink as well the current Smoky Slate color. After stamping the lighthouse out, I scanned it with my Brother ScanNCut C350 and cut it out. I wanted to lighthouse to have some dimension to make it stand out, so without shutting off my digital cutter, I loaded it with white cardstock and cut two blank lighthouse outline shapes. I then glued these to the back of the stamped image.
The new SU "New Horizons" pattern paper is gorgeous, and perfect for scenes. I chose one that had grays, peach, and colors similar to the inks I'm using with this card and cut it to 4"x 5-1/4". In the "peachy" area I used the gravel base pattern stamp from the same set as the lighthouse and stamped a base onto that area using SU Crumb Cake ink. It turned out later that I covered most of this up, but what little still showed through after assembly still gave a base for the lighthouse to "ground" it. I also stamped the sea gulls in black up in the sky area of the panel.
The next step was to create the sentiment piece. I chose the sentiment from the lighthouse set that offers hope to someone going through a rough time. I stamped it onto white cardstock with the SU Tranquil Tide ink (re-stamped twice more using my SU Stamparatus stamp positioner to make it dark), then die cut it out with a Sizzix circle die. I used the slightly larger SU stitched circle die to cut the mat from the same color cardstock as the ink.
The next step was to glue the the scenery panel to the SU Tranquil Tide card base, then glue the lighthouse to the panel. I was careful to locate the lighthouse so there would be room on the card front to attach the sentiment circle (per the challenge sketch). The sentiment circle was attached using foam tape since it overlapped the lighthouse and needed to be raise up to the same level.
The very last step was to stamp and attach the scrap of "peachy" left over from cutting the scenery panel. I used two of the "sea grass" stamps in the set and inked them with the same ink as the sentiment, but only stamped the grass once since I didn't want it as dark as the sentiment. I mounted the small horizontal strip using foam tape behind it.
I am rating the difficulty level for this card as a "3" out of a possible "5". This is primarily because there is no matching die set for the stamps, so the lighthouse had to be cut manually (including the two white layers underneath). There also has to be care taken as to how you cut the scenery panel so there's "sky" area, and enough space for the lighthouse and sentiment circle.
