I'm happy to be hosting this week's color challenge! I picked these colors as I was preparing for a trip to Arizona and thought I might be inspired to do something with a Southwestern theme. This isn't exactly where I thought I would end up though.
During our trip we made a visit to the Sonora Desert Museum and while there I saw some artwork by the artist Leland Holiday. He adds color to animals in such a unique and beautiful way. Of course that isn't quite what I did here but I just had to give it a try and see what I could come up with.
I stamped the bear lightly with the Stamparatus (positioner), added some splotches of Blends: Bermuda Bay light, Pool Party Dark - which I use for Coastal Cabana, and Cinnamon Cider Dark. Then I overstamped again with black.
The background paper was done with the shaving cream technique, using the 3 challenge colors: Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Cinnamon Cider. Dessert is anything metallic. I used a copper foil edge and some tiny triangles cut from the same foil.
Thanks so much for peeking! I hope that you can play along.

So creative! When I saw your design, I thought of the artwork I have seen at the Sonora Desert Museum. When I read your description, I was astonished that you were inspired by a trip to my home state. Love it! The shaving cream strips are amazing. Wonderful coloring on the bear. Love the tiny triangles. Fabulous card!

Wow, Chris, this is just amazing. I love your story of inspiration about coloring the bear. Then I notice those swirls of color at the edge and I see you used the shaving cream technique. That's a favorite of mine. Super fantastic card with fabulous color choices for today.
