Winter in the City

Photo Details
Poster: donnaks

I made this card for Inspiration Station #21 - Winter Cityscape challenge (https://inspirationstationchallenge....cityscape.html) which had a theme as well as an inspiration photo.

I really like the street scene and nighttime inspiration photo, so decided to recreate the glowing moon in the sky and the snow-covered sidewalks. I made the moon large enough so it could also hold the sentiment.

All stamping was done with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I chose it because it shows little detail so clearly when stamped. I decided not to list all the Stampin' Up! (SU) inks I used since I lost count at 11! I first stamped all the building outlines (using SU "In the City" stamp set) with my SU Stamparatus stamp positioning tool, then used the Stamparatus to stamp all the inside colors (each building has a matching inside stamp). Since most of the buildings are pretty straight outlines, and there are no matching dies for them, I elected to fussy cut them (instead of using my ScanNCut to digitally cut them). It took a while, but was easy to do.

Because the inspiration photo had such much "depth" to it, I decided to attach most the buildings on my card using foam tape. The buildings are at three different levels.

I created the "street" at the bottom using an unbranded roll of washi tape. The sidewalk snow banks were created by die cutting the clouds in the SU "Up & Away" die set, then cutting them in half and gluing them both under the buildings, as well as over the front of them. The trees are supposed to be green canopy, but after stamping them, I used a thin-lined Sharpie marker to draw lots of extra branches so they looked snow-laden.

The moon was a 1-5/8" circle cut from vanilla cardstock, then rubbed with SU Crumb Cake ink using a craft sponge. "Craters" were added by stamping the "sand" texture stamp from SU's "Magical Mermaid" set. The glow around the moon was created with a craft sponge that was lightly tapped in white craft ink, then "pulled out" from the center of where I was going to glue the moon. The stars were created with a white gel pen.

I'm rating the difficulty level of this card as a "3" out of a possible "5" because of all the precise stamping, cutting, positioning, sponging, etc.
