Since I don't own watercolor paints, I opted to use Tombow water-based markers and a water painter (brush with water container built in). I started by cutting my watercolor paper to the desired size and spritzing it liberally with water to soak it. Then I used the water painter to pull color from the tips of some of the Tombow markers and loosely spread it to create a pale color wash on the watercolor paper (3 colors). Then I used the heat tool to dry the paper.
Starting with pale colors, I used Tombow markers to color the floral silhouette stamp, spritzed the colored stamp with water, and then stamped it on the watercolor paper, drying with the heat tool in between each stamping. When I got to the bottom of the paper, I used a combination of 3 Distress Oxide inks for the darker images, spritzed the stamp with water, and then stamped it on the watercolor paper followed with drying via the heat tool. I also added 3 muted blue butterfly images in the flowers.
I stamped the sentiment using Timber Brown ink. I used water to thin some ivory acrylic paint and then splattered it on the watercolor paper. After drying it with the heat tool, I wrapped twine around the panel twice and then used dimensional foam tape to mount the panel on a white card base.
I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt. It has even more depth in person -- the photo just doesn't show it all. Can't wait to try it some more! TFL!

How clever to substitute the Tombow markers for your watercolor wash bg. It looks beautiful and I, too, love the warmth of the colors in the bg and the stamping. You certainly mastered that technique in one try. Beautiful card.
