This is my attempt at last week's watercolor challenge. I used Strathmore watercolor paper and wonder if I need to try a different kind. The watercolor doesn't bloom much on this paper.
I followed along with the video to create this watercolor. The blue of the sky connected only at the one point which is why I called it Tornado? Once it was dry, I die cut and embossed the frame and brought ink direct to paper to highlight the embossing.
I chose to heat emboss the sentiment and mounted this panel to a white card base.
Angie, I am posting this for you! Thanks for the challenge and thanks for looking!

Your abstract painting looks great with the sentiment. Glad you played and discovered the difference in paper. It really makes a difference when its cotton. The paint just sits on top of other papers. Happy you joined us this week.

I used Strathmore Series 300 (better) with a LOT of water and got a good amount of bloom though it does give me trouble for some techniques. Once I use this up, I'm considering getting either the 400 (best) or 500 (Premium) _ We don't have a lot of choices where I live . . . . Also while I put a lot of water on the paper, I didn't put very much in my paint, keeping it highly pigmented. I'd say this is a great 1st attempt and you can always experiment on scrap pieces of WC paper to see if you get if you get more bloom with different amounts of water and paint intensity. The wood look framing give the piece a nice cohesive look.

This is me, hugging you! I love that you tried this challenge and posted it. I like that it looks a little like a tornado in the corner but my eyes are seeing a gorgeously full tree and a pond below with beautiful reflection! I love abstracts! It's definitely good to have different papers on hand. I know that all of my paintings would be better on the best paper but I don't quite have the funds for that so I have both and I save certain types of paintings for my best paper. Having said that, I LOVE how your abstract turned out; nothing wrong with it at all!
