This card was made as a supportive card for one of my chemotherapy "buddies" in the Chemo Angels program. The challenge that inspired it required the use of paint/ink spattering.

Right away when I think of ink spatters I think of stars in a night sky. So I got out four different intense color ink pads and used a blending brush to put splotches of color all over a piece of white cardstock so there was no white showing through. You don't have to be careful at all, just create roughly circular splotches all over the panel's surface. Once the ink had dried, I used Memento black ink with a blending brush and covered the entire surface to mute the intense colors, but not hide them.

Next came the hardest part... finding the right white ink to creating the spattering! I tried white die ink, and an alcohol white ink, but the spattering wasn't doing it for me (do this on a SCRAP of dark paper to test the effects and perfect the spattering technique. So, I experimented with white Ranger Enamel Accents mixed with just a little bit of water and found my best results! Here's a link to a tutorial that talks about using watercolor inks to create the background, as well as the spattering technique: Outer Space Background Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers

The final step was to create the sentiment piece. The stamp with the uplifting message is from the Stampin' Up! (SU) "High Tide" set. I stamped it on holographic silver cardstock using StazOn black ink. Then cut it out with SU "Stitched With Whimsy" dies. I then mounted this onto the starry night background using foam tape. Note that you need to be SURE your StazOn ink is dry before die cutting it. You can wait a while, or using a cool setting on your heat gun to help it along.

The front panel was glued to a card base made from the same silver holographic cardstock.

I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" since ink blending and spattering are pretty easy to pick up as card making skills. I like h9ow the sentiment panel and card base pick up the colors from the starry night panel!
