This is Oscar. He is a Sandhill Crane who comes to visit every summer at my friends house in WI. Oscar has a damaged leg so they can tell it is the same bird each year. He comes and hangs out in the front yard and the last several years he has had a girl friend that he brings along. I had taken a picture of him a few years ago and that is what I used for a reference for this painting. I might even get to go visit Oscar this year. Thanks for visiting him, too.
I need to get my camera out more when I'm at home. But the birds here do not cooperate quite as much as Oscar did. Happy Teapotting.

How beautiful! I love your Oscar drawing and painting. I bet it's fun to keep watch over Oscar and his comings and goings...and he has a girlfriend! I hope you get to see him again soon.

Love the scene you created for Oscar. It really looks like the sandhill cranes that roam the farm fields. They are large and loud. You did make him look handsome. TFS

Wonderful painting, Pat! And while I've never seen a sandhill crane, from your painting, he reminds me of a small emu . . .at least the wings and tailfeathers seem to have quite a "fluffy" look.

Gorgeous! You are one talented lady. I have to settle for using other's artwork in the form of stamps. This is beautifully done and I agree with Faith (PeonySnail) about the foggy morning look.

Cranes, wow! Apparently there is a nest here in Ireland for the first time in something like 300 years. But I've only ever seen them in captivity, must be great to see one in the wild. What a great drawing you made of Oscar, a treat for whichever teapotter receives it.
I remember hearing a program on the radio about a stork in Eastern Europe, she can't fly so someone looks after her every winter and then her partner comes back each year to them. (Wikipedia:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klepetan_and_Malena)
I agree, it's hard to get good pictures in the garden. I had to put up squirrel-proof feeders a few years ago, and that's made it even harder because of the sort of cage around them, they're much less photogenic. But it's worth trying!

How beautifully created! Your water coloring and sketching skills are fabulous! I love cranes, and the sound of them migrating overhead in their big flocks is very cool. We were able to see fields of them this year in Nebraska- quite the sight!

Pat, this was a terrific challenge this month! Your watercolour scene is so beautifully done, so peaceful and love that it has such a personal memory for you. Some teapotter is going to be very lucky to receive this!

Your painting is fabulous. Oscar is wonderful. Thanks for sharing the story too. I always go in and look at the watercolor challenges to see what everyone does. I haven't worked up the nerve to give it a try yet.

A beautifully coloured scene. It is definitely set in a misty morning garden. A great story to go with the crane too. Oh yes - I even managed to get some of those little yellow cone flowers to grow in my garden this year.
