 | | This card was made for two challenges which required a masculine birthday card with a "yo-yo" trick theme (I chose "around the world").
I started off by lightly inking the inside of the Stampin' Up! (SU) "World Traveler" embossing folder with SU Island Indigo ink using a brayer. Then I carefully placed the 4"x5-1/4" light mint green cardstock in side the folder and ran it through my Big Shot to impress the world image while also transferring the light blue ink to the oceans on the map.
Next, I stamped the bi-plane image onto a piece of the same light green cardstock using black ink. I chose the green cardstock because there are so many interior "openings" in the stamped image that I wanted it to appear as though the map background was showing through without the need to manually cut out the spaces between the struts with an Xacto knife.
I colored the plane using a red alcohol marker, and used the glittery Wink of Stella brush to color the propeller to accentuate the look of it spinning around.
Since the airplane image doesn't have a matching die, I used my Brother Scan N Cut digital cutting machine to first scan the stamped image, then to cut it out with a .04" outside margin. I also cut out two extra plane shapes from the same green cardstock to stack and glue behind the plane to raise it up off the card front for extra dimension.
Finally, the sentiment was created using Word since I wanted it to reflect the yo-yo "around the world" trick per the challenge. I printed it on white cardstock using the same blue color as the card base. The mat was created by simply cutting a strip 1/4" wider than the height of the sentiment banner, and about 3/4" longer before punching it out with the SU banner's punch. This was layered then glued onto the card front.
I am rating the difficulty level for this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". If you use the same bi-plane stamp and have to fussy cut the plane out, I would rate it just a little higher for difficulty.
