Altenew Online Workshop: Progressive Cardmaking Part 2
I can hardly believe it myself. Today I will show you my project for the 25th online workshop of the Altenew Academy within the Altenew Educator Certification Program (AECP). After that I will receive my final challenge for Level 3, which means I will be teaching a class myself. This will probably be an online class due to the current situation.
In the workshop "Progressive Cardmaking Part 2", Justine Hovey shows a colorful mix of different cardmaking techniques in 6 videos. In each video there are three cards on a theme with varying degrees of difficulty. I am an absolute fan of embossing folders and therefore I chose this theme from the workshop. Altenew's embossing folders not only have great designs and patterns, they are also square, which is my favorite card format.
In many of the Altenew Academy workshops the trainers encourage us to try the techniques introduced and then for us to develop them in our own way. Since this is my last project as part of this training, I will submit my favorite card as directed, but I will show you all the cards I have made on this theme to inspire you.
Some motifs of the Altenew embossing folders are so beautiful that you can use them "pure", so to speak, just the embossed white (or colored) cardstock. But you can also color the embossed motif. I embossed white cardstock with "Tulip 3D". Then I used flat blending brushes and Distress Oxide Inks (dye inks also work) to wipe a touch of color onto the raised areas.
It's best to use flat blending brushes or a blending tool when using this technique. If you use the curved blending brushes, too much color sometimes goes into the areas that are not raised, so the 3D effect does not come out so well. Wipe very gently (do not apply too much pressure) and rather more often until the desired color effect is achieved.

Card 2: Embossing Folder, Encaustic Paper and Alcohol Inks
A very simple and colorful technique. I embossed white encaustic paper with the embossing folder "Daisies 3D". Then I dripped different Alcohol Inks (the Altenew Artist Marker refills also work) onto the flowers, leaves and background. I sometimes added a little bit isopropylalcohol to thin the color. Playing with the colors is the name of the game here, because the color gradients are not always controllable.

Card 3: Embossing Folder, Photo Paper and Alcohol Inks
The same technique as card 2 only with photo paper. Encaustic paper looks more matte, while the photo paper has a glossy surface. Another difference can be seen when using isopropylalcohol. On the photo paper, the Alcohol Inks can be better diluted using the isopropylalcohol and also dissolved again. Please be sure to test the respective paper, because each type of paper reacts differently. I have created splatters with diluted black acrylic paint and with the Altenew Ink Spray "Pure White".

Background: put some drops of stamp pad refill ink onto a smooth surface (such as Glass Media Mat), then thin them with water and press white cardstock onto the ink; repeat several times if needed. You can of course also press the ink pads directly onto the Glass Media Mat and spray with water.
The Altenew embossing folders are slightly translucent, so you can see the matching spot in this background for the embossing folder a little bit if you place the embossing folder on the background and slide it back and forth (see picture). I marked the matching spot, cut out the square with scissors and then embossed it. Using flat blending brushes, I wiped Distress Oxides onto the raised areas. Then, using cotton swabs and Versafine Clair, I added a few more darker accents of green and blue onto the tulips and leaves. I created splatters with diluted black acrylic paint and Altenew Ink Spray "Pure White".

I also used a "refiller background" for this card (see card 4). However, the motifs of the Altenew embossing folder "Flowery Field 3D" are more filigrane, so I applied the color (Versafine Clair) mainly with cotton swabs. I then used a red "Spectrum Noir Sparkle Brush" to create additional accents. For the white splatters I used Altenew Ink Spray "Pure White". I stamped the sentiment on white cardstock and die-cut it with the matching Altenew die from the "Featured Sentiments" die set. There is a slightly larger die in this set that I used to die-cut a matching frame from gold Mirror cardstock.
I hope I could inspire you.
Have fun trying it out
