Eggplant With Sympathy

Poster: donnaks

This gatefold card was made for a sketch challenge with an optional theme of "April Showers". However, recently I've had more need of sympathy cards, and I thought the layout was perfect for this theme.

I started with a cardbase that was 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" and scored it at 2-1/8" and 6-3/8" to create the gatefold.I then cut two pieces of a purple pattern paper to 2"x 5-1/4" and glued then on the front of the card's two sides. I then cut a thicker piece of white cardstock to 1-1/2"x 5-1/4" and centered it over the join line of the two front halves of the card, but glued it ONLY on the left side.

The oval element was created by stamping a floral outline from Stampin' Up! (SU) 2009 "Pocket Silhouettes" onto heavy what cardstock using black ink. I then die cut the stamped image with an oval stitched die that was just big enough to leave room at the bottom of the floral stems for the sentiment. To ensure the stitching was nice and deep, I embossed the die with a rubber mat directly under the die/die cut and ran it through my Big Shot a second time.

The sentiment (from SU's "Teeny Tiny Wishes") was stamped in black at the bottom of the stems. I then die cut a slightly larger stitched oval using the purple cardstock and embossed it similarly to the white oval. The two ovals were then glued together. Before attaching the oval element to the card, I cut two 1/4"x 5-1/4" strips of the same purple as the card base and glued them slightly away from the vertical white strip. Then attached the oval slightly below center on the white strip using adhesive foam strips to give the card dimension (being careful the foam strips didn't go beyond the edge of the white cardstock on the right side).

The final step was to create a purple bow (I used Bow-Easy bow maker), and attached it to the card using mini glue dots.

I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" because of all the careful measurements you need to make things match up correctly.
