I mentioned in an earlier post that my friend who had written a book about her African adventures was speaking to my book club. One of the members, Margo, was enchanted by her description of seeing a white peacock come out of the jungle and display his tail and she sent us this YouTube link so we could be equally charmed:
I decided I wanted to make a white peacock card for Margo's birthday. I recently spotted this great card by Rita (Stamping Servant). I loved the tropical leaf panel she created and thought that would be perfect for my jungle peacock. Here's her card: IC789, FS728, Tropical Bird by Stamping Servant at Splitcoaststampers
The bg was left over ink on a gel plate that I brayered over again to get it darker. I then stamped the various leaves in DOX. I printed out the peacock and used my lightest Copic Gray (C00) for a touch of shadow. It barely shows but the C1 marker was too dark for the look I wanted. Because I wanted to keep all the loose tendrils of feathers I outlined the image with the Copic pen I thought blended best with the main DOX ink and then I fussy cut the image with a larger margin than usual. All tendrils and delicate leaves were saved. Whew!. I fussy cut the image three more times and stacked them so their is some depth to the card. And, because I have now joined the Jennifrann Cult of Sticklers, I added a drop to each eye on the tail and the band across the head. Direct ink to paper for the sentiment. The stamping wasn't showing a lot so I did clear emboss it, which helped a bit, and popped it up on foam tape. For the border, I ink blended the edges of a white card base with the darkest DOX.
I hope you enjoyed the video. They truly are beautiful birds to see but I wouldn't want one for a pet. On one of my hiking trips to Utah, the owner of the B&B where we stayed had a peahen. That dang bird screeched every morning at 4 a.m. It sounded like cats in heat. One of my hiking buddies was so upset he vowed to go out and wring the birds neck. We persuaded him otherwise.
Hope you are having a beautiful day and I hope it's more quiet and serene than squawking peafowl. TFL.

Beautiful....love the peacock and of course the BG is fantastic. Love the steps to make this gem. Stickler details on feathers, a perfect finish!

How beautiful, Debbie. The background is gorgeous, so is your peacock. I was going to say that I would have stamped on the background to keep the tendrils and leaves, but then I saw that you also added a couple of extra layers for dimension, so I don't think that would have worked. And stamping on DOX can look a bit washed out, and I like the green border so I think your option is certainly best here.
One year in France when we arrived at our campsite we thought we saw white egrets on the river bank. Imagine our amazement the next day when we went for a walk and discovered three white peacocks displaying their tails, shimmying away. I think I have a video clip somewhere on my blog. DH was very disappointed that we didn't see them again when we were there in summer 2019. You're right about the terrible noise they make! Such an by sound for such beautiful birds.

This is beautiful! I love the background that you created and that you left your peacock white! We used to have a white peacock that visited our property several years back.
