My brother's FIL had a birthday last week. He is a great lover of fishing, so I wanted to make a fishing-themed card for him. I used a wiper card tutorial by Sam Calcott at Mixed Up Craft for my card construction.
I found the images of the jumping bass & the fly fisherman at clipart-library.com. I wasn't sure if fly fishing would be used for bass, but I couldn't find a suitable trout image, so I googled fly fishing for bass. Turns out, it works, so I went with that!
I created a 5x7" blank "canvas" in Photoshop. I dragged the fisherman image onto that. I created a blue-to-orange gradient, and added that to the "sky" portion, to look like a sunrise sky. I also added a light blue-to-dark blue gradient for the water. I selected & duplicated a few of the ripple lines in the image, so I could create more ripples in the water. I basically just moved, flipped, & slightly rotated those, so the ripples spread out a little more to fill the space. Finally, I printed the composite image onto a panel of white cardstock.
For the fish, I created a second, smaller blank canvas in Photoshop. I dragged the fish image to that. Because the black lines in the image were so bold, I reduced the opacity of that layer quite a bit, so they wouldn't print as dark. I printed that onto a piece of vellum bristol paper.
I colored the fish with my Prismacolor colored pencils. I die cut 2 wave borders from Whirlypop cardstock.
I assembled the card according to the tutorial. I used bits of the "Pebbles" paper for the side panels, matted with Fog cardstock. I also matted my front image panel with Fog. Before I adhered the front & back together, I added the fish & wave borders to the acetate piece for the wiper portion. Finally, I adhered the front & back panels at the sides. I forgot to include instructions for getting the wiper to work when I sent the card. He is an engineer, though, so I hope he was able to figure it out, & got a kick out of it.
