This is for Sonja's We Need Cake VSN. Cake and I.....we have an interesting history. Well, interesting to me. As I got older, I became my Dad, who preferred pie. His favorite was coconut cream, mine was cherry, although now it's pumpkin. But my first memory of cake was my birthday cake, which was always confetti angel food. Very fluffy white frosting on it and served with mint chocolate chip ice cream. The first birthday I really remember is my 8th. I had just had eye surgery and we were up north in a rented cottage on a lake so just family and some friends who lived next door. I was happy as a clam. Are clams really happy??
Anyway, as I pondered cake, I came across a background that I had painted this summer, just little blobs of color, I think I intended to use it for little leaves. But as I looked at it, I thought of confetti. I put a layer of glue and chunky glitter in between and drew a simple cake stand.
I still remember my Mom sending my aunt, her sister, boxes of the confetti angel food cake mix because she couldn't find it in New Jersey for some reason.

I love your cake and especially because of the delicious story you told about it. You glitter does remind me of frosty. How fun to have a challenge that elicits happy childhood memories. But, in the end, I'm with you -- pie wins over cake every time. Great celebration card.

Confetti angel food--I don't think I have ever had that flavor. When we had angel food it was always served with fresh strawberries. We didn't get that buttery, rich shortcake, we got the fluffy, airy stuff that didn't really taste like much and got mushy real quick with the strawberry juice soaking in. Your colorful dots do look like confetti. Love your fun story. Thanks for playing in the cake challenge.

You take the cake, bfnm!!! I love the feelings your memories invoked. My favorite is coconut, freshly grated and 7 minute frosting. My grandmother would always let me lick the beaters! The sentiment makes a mighty fine cake stand. And the sparkly icing is da bomb.
