I finally finished my water colored Lantern for this weeks watercolor challenge. I think I'm using too much water when I wet my card and add my color - but I'm learning. I'm happy enough with this to post it - as I want to try and do all of the challenges!
here is the youtube tutorial:
I think I get in trouble when I'm trying to do it exactly the way the teacher on the video does it, as I don't always know the reason they are doing whatever they are doing, such as adding so much blue and getting darker and darker in some areas - I ended up with no light spots and had to 'remove' some color - so I'm thinking I should just paint it the way I think it in my head while following the general techniques and design.
I am enjoying the weekly 'classes' ladies - thanks for inspiring us!

Your lantern card turned out beautifully, Julia. I especially like how you showed reflected light on the pine cone and snow. (I have found that some watercolor papers tend to "grab" more than others....that's why I am partial to Arches cold press....it's not as prone to do that))

I think your card is beautiful, Julia. Good work giving some light to the cone. I think that really makes it realistic. The water can be tricky but the more you paint you will soon know just how much you need. At times, I get too much and have to dab it off quickly. I am glad you are joining us each week. I believe we are all learning a lot and getting good tips.

Lovely card with your light reflections and night sky. Glad you are playing along each week. There are so many ways to do a painting, and it's hard to judge from a video how wet the paper is and how much pressure they are using too. Some paper absorbs easier. The 100% cotton paper like arches absorbs well. Keep having fun and joining in on the challenges. We enjoy your creations.
