This card was made for two joint card challenges where I had to use dies, "tie" something up, and have a holiday theme.
I had spotted Judy's beautiful card at https://judymay.typepad.com/just_jud...aming-dsp.html , that was my inspiration. I changed the color, pattern, and replaced the tall vertical copper strip with dark blue ribbon (for the "tie" part of the challenge).
The star is the highlight of this card. Instead of making it flat, I use mini foam dots to raise two of the five layers up as a stack. The dots I used aren't as thick as foam tape, so that worked better for me.
The star was created by die cutting the three largest stars from the Stampin' Up! (SU) "Stitched Stars" die set. So the layering is:
- Bottom Copper Foil Star - die cut using largest star from copper cardstock
- Middle Layer - Copper Foil Element glued to top of navy cardstock die cut with second to the largest star die.
- Top Layer - navy star die cut with the third largest star, with an ornamental star die cut and glued on top.
Each layer was separated using the mini foam dots.
The final step was to create the sentiment block. I used versamark ink to stamp the greeting (from SU Merry Patterns stamp set) onto navy cardstock. Then sprinkled with copper embossing powder and heat set. The copper scroll wrapped around the greeting block was die cut from the same star die set.
The panel on the right side of the card is from the SU "Brightly Gleaming" Speciality designer series paper (DSP). The ribbon I used to cover the edge of the foiled specialty paper is a navy grosgrain ribbon from Michaels.
The hardest part making this card is to keep the glue off the front of the foil elements. Using the dies and specialty paper made it a breeze! I am rating the difficulty level as a "3" out of a possible "5".
