This card was made for a sketch challenge that also had a tropical optional theme. When I visited South America, these butterflies were the thing that impressed me most with their iridescent blue wings.
The card was easy to make, but I sweated over what papers I wanted to use. I decided on the Stampin' Up! (SU) Botanical Butterflies Designer Series Paper pattern that was a print of white butterflies swirling on a black background. I colored all the white butterflies with the same blue Copic marker (B01) that I used for the larger butterfly. I thought this brought the card together as a whole, and gave an interesting background piece to the required tilted panel.
The main butterfly image was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored with Copic markers. The Morpho species is known for its blue color with some orange dots along the bottom of the wings. I emphasized these colored dots by replicating the color with the required side tab, for which I chose a similar orange.
The blue vertical panel has a piece of dotted light blue Washi tape that picks up on the light blue butterflies.
I am rating the difficulty level of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" since coloring with the Copic markers was the "hardest" part of creating this card.
I didn't put a sentiment on it, but will do so when I decide who I will send it to, and the occasion.
