This card is a rarity for me - no stamping, no ink - just die cuts, digital cutting, and punching. It was inspired by a beautiful milestone card made by Judy May from Melbourne, Australia (https://judymay.typepad.com/just_jud...-birthday.html) and Cut It Up #200 card challenge (http://cutitupchallenges.blogspot.co...for-stars.html) Congrats to CIU!!!.
I changed Judy's colors a bit, and the location of several of the die cuts and use of confetti, and of course US measurements to fit A2 paper but it's hard to improve on Judy's perfection!!!
My husband turns 70 later this week. We had planned to have about 50 people join us, but times being what they are, we are doing a Zoom videoconferencing with close family instead.
The card base a standard 8-1/2" x 11" that I cut a diagonal from the top right corner down to the opposite short side at 3-3/4" above the bottom of the card. I made to score lines for folding at 3-5/8" and 7-1/4". I then cut Stampin' Up! (SU) Night of Navy cardstock for all three panels making each panel 1/4" narrower and 3/8" SHORTER than the card base panel. For the center panel, I cut a white panel for writing my sentiment that was 1/4" narrower and shorter than the dark blue panel. The gold trim was a strip of gold cardstock that I cut into a 1/4" strip and hand fit and trimmed to the top and bottom of all three panels.
The "celebrate" die cut was a little tricky. Since I wanted it to just barely sit on top of the first panel, I die cut one word from the gold cardstock, then die cut 4 more from SU Crushed Curry cardstock. I layered one of these on the back of the gold word and glued it to the top of the panel BARELY overlapping the edge. Then to ensure the word had firmly attached, I took the other three yellow die-cut words and sandwiched them together with glue, and glued them onto the back of the panel. This ensured the word wouldn't bend easy, and had stiffening and glue on the back of the panel.
The "70" on the first panel was the Srikandy digital font I downloaded free from www.DaFont.com I used my ScanNCut to cut it out of the same gold foil cardstock. The "Happy Birthday" sentiment was die-cut using a SU die. All the confetti was in a Creative Fabrica SVG cut file called "Confetti Whale". I was sure to include three stars in the confetti for Cut It Up's challenge.
The balloons on the center panel were die-cut from the same gold foil cardstock as well as gold glitter cardstock. I used metallic gold embroidery thread for the balloon strings.
I think my husband will be very impressed with the card. I put a lot of love and effort into making it. I am rating the difficulty level as a "4" out of a possible "5" because of all the careful measurements and cuts I had to do. It would have been easier with dies to make the numbers and confetti, but we use what we have! That's what crafting is always about when you can't go out shopping at hobby stores as much as you wish. Not sure why hobby and craft stores aren't considered "essential" :-D
