I was pondering which flower to use on my friend's birthday card when this week's Teapot challenge -- Put A Shell On It -- reminded me how much Alison loves the sea. She even lived on a boat in the marina for several years. So, Voila! I put a Shell On It.
The background is Copic reinkers (BG0000, BG01, BG53, BG57). I wan't thrilled with the colors. I thought they would be brighter. I don't know if it is my color selection or the way they reacted on this particular paper. The ink did not move well and even though it was a glossy paper, it seemed to get absorbed pretty quick. A friend gave me this paper so I don't know which brand it is. But I still liked the affect so I went with it.
I stamped the shells with Versafine black ink. I wasn't sure that would work since Versafine can take awhile to dry. So I heat dried in between each layer and didn't have a problem Then I stamped the letters SEA . I thought it would look cool to add some bubble affects so I pulled out the 0 colorless blender pen. Oh no, not happening, that ink as sealed to the card and would not budge a smidgen. I guess all that heat drying really fixed it. And, I think that paper, probably added to it, The shells felt a bit sticky when I was through so I went over the whole thing with Distress Micro Glaze and that seemed to fix it.
But, lessons learned:
-- test the paper first (duh) before you commit. I already knew that not all glossy was created equal, but I didn't know just how unequal they could be.
-- add "bubbles" before you heat set the heck out of it (of course this might be the paper again but just in case).
-- I wish I had black heat embossed the shells so there was a bit more depth. But I had already removed the stamps from the Misti and I knew I wouldn't get that many details realigned properly.
All in all I do like how it turned out and I think she will like it too. Hope you all are having a great day enjoying whatever environment you might be in. Personally, I have never enjoyed the salty feel of the beach or the sand sneaking into my suit all that much. Give me a lake any day of the week. LOL. TFL

I hear you about not all glossy papers being equal (even within the same brand). Everything about this looks terrific Debbie and well worth all the effort. I think the shells have the perfect amount of intensity, they still draw the eye to the word "sea". Your friend will feel very special when she receives this.

Oh wow Debbie, this is so gorgeous and oh-so creative too! I love your ocean and the way you created it; especially with the light-toned words mixed in there. Your shells are so beautifully detail and look very elegant too. I love the detail in your rectangle die cut as well. ~Karen.

I love this and I love the ocean. The beach is my fave place. Talking about the sand, I have a family member who used to wear cowgirl boots on the sand. She was about 3 or 4 yrs. old and could not stand the sand on her feet. But, she wanted out there so she could play in it with her hands. Ha
Love your colors and shells. The word "sea" is great on your card. Sorry you had trouble making it.
