Medicine cabinets used to have a slit in the back to receive dull safety razor blades, which then collected up in the wall. Since most people used cartridges for years, those slots have disappeared, and thereâs no great place to dispose of safety razor blades. I made these boxes for my husband and me, so blades donât end up in the trash can. Weâll see how long it takes to fill them up.
Score and cut the 8â x 6 3/4â piece of box board according to the dimensions in the photo. Score all the dotted lines. Cut the solid lines. Trim out the indicated pair of corners, and cut a slit on one of the 2 1/4â sides, near the top.
Fold all score lines toward the back (Mountain Folds). Fold on the 4 1/2â score lines to form a rectangular tube. Glue the overlapping flaps together. Flatten the box on score lines, and weight it down, until the glue bonds. Once the glue bonds, open the tube.
Fold the top side flaps, and then the wider top flaps to form the top of the box. Glue the long flaps together. Do the same to the bottom.
Wrap the box with rubber bands to hold the top and bottom flaps together. Once the glue has set, remove the bands.
Slip used safety razor blades into the box, when they are dull. When the box is full, throw the whole, biodegradable thing into the trash.
