The texture is achieved by gluing bits of chipboard and twine to a piece of recycled chipboard, and then covering it with tissue paper. After painting with one color, a second color is added to highlight the raised texture. A final coat of matte mod podge is given for a slight glossy finish.
Just about anything can be used to add texture - coffee grounds, sawdust or wood shavings, rice, nails, buttons, etc. Use your imagination.
