So there were three 14 year old girls in 1966. Diane, Lyn and Jean. Lyn wouldn't be 14 until November. She knew Diane and Jean, but Diane and Jean had never met until the first day of freshman year. They walked together to school most every day, were in band and took Latin. Why did they take Latin? Jean liked word origins and should have been born at another time and place. Diane and Lyn were Catholic and their parents thought it was a good idea, even thought Vatican II had happened. The three puellas (girls in Latin) have remained friends all these years.
I've always loved language and ancient civilizations and had bought these Roman numeral birthday candles long ago. I learned Roman numerals in grade school; I imagine they no longer do that. I thought it would be fun to create a birthday card for Diane, who will be the first to turn 68 next May. LXVIII is 68. I had these alphabet stamps and thought they looked 'ancient' enough. Embossed in silver, cut out and mounted over some candles that I die cut and colored with pencils. I love the old ladies stamp; we will never look like that or act like that, God forbid. I splattered the background with some metallic paints. I think I'll make one for Lyn, who will be 67 in November.
Our 50th class reunion is in 2020, so we will party like it's MCMLXX. I'm such a geek.

yes, indeed, get busy on Lyn's card! How very special. Diane and Lyn both will love this. Aren't you glad we can all be ladies of a certain generation without being THOSE kind of ladies! Me thinks is was cause it was the music and the summer of luv. Fabulous splattering and the candles.
Wonderful memory. I think I might have to go to confession today...I have a serious envy problem of your marvelous stamp collection! Fave'd

This is so clever with the roman numeral candle holders on the bottom and then pairing it with that image and the best and hilarious saying that goes perfectly with it. HA! Sounds like you have some treasured friends..they'll love this card..
