The Friday Free For All Challenge, F4A Holiday Card Show Off 12/14/18, was to show off some of the winter holiday cards you have made. Fun challenge and one I am happy to participate in!
I just finished making this Christmas card for a sweet neighbor of ours. She loves pastels (aqua is a favorite!) and lots of sparkles, so I pulled out all the stops and made this lantern card with that in mind.
The most challenging part of this card was deciding on the size of the card base. I started out with a standard A2 size and then bumped it up to an A6, and finally settled on a 5â x 7â card. This size of card is WAY out of my comfort range because it provides a larger area that needs filling in one way or another. I opted to used a largish Woodgrain printed paper as the background to help fill the void and a subtle pop of color.
I fully intended this card to be CAS, but that plan went off the rails when I started adding the finishing details around the lantern. The pine sprigs are done in 2 colors of vellum and one shade of cs....I hoped the vellum would give the illusion of frosty branches.
There is a lot of subtle sparkle on this card that might not be evident in the photo. I used Nuvo Crystal Drops White Blizzard on the winter scene inside the lantern and it glistens when the light hits it right. There is also sparkle in the iridescent fiber & metallic cording in the tie at the top and under the sentiment panel.
This was a really fun card to make because the design plan changed so many times while I was making it! I am guessing that our friend will be delighted when she opens it up and sees her favorite color used on a Christmas card made just for her.
Thanks for taking a peek at my lantern card. Hope you have a cozy Christmas!

Awesome lantern die cut. I love the winter scene inside it. The aqua woodgrain paper is perfect, especially for a person, who like me, loves aqua. I love the branches framing the lantern, and how you described how this creation evolved.
