Lisa is our hostess for the "Use Burlap" WTUI challenge this week - you can find the challenge HERE. It was a great challenge for me because this owl (which DH thought was a weirdo Halloween thing) has been sitting on my desk for a while, one of my colouring projects from when I was sick in September. Inktense pencils on watercolour paper - and if I'd known I'd be fussy-cutting her, I'd have used lighter paper.
I used a gel print from my stash, edging it with white acrylic and sprinkling that with glitter. The colours were just right for pairing with my little owl. I frayed the edges of the burlap, mod-podged it to the gel print and then added mulberry tissue layers for the foreground and stencilled white acrylic paint for the falling snow. Added a little twine string and bow to the heart, and added glossy accents to her boots. Picking up on the circle motif I pulled out some old brads with snowflakes on them and added three of them over some of the dots in the gel print.

Oh, Sabrina, this adorable image is so sweet with your coloring. Your fussy cutting is superb especially given that it's heavier paper. But I love how you've used the burlap and added "snow" to it. Stunning background with perfect colors. I love the white edge too. Sweet and fun, precious friend! Sure hope you have good health as you go into the holiday season. Hugs and love, precious Sabrina!! xoxo

What a cute card, Sabrina! I love your little owl in her winter gear and the mulberry snowbank is a great idea! The stenciled snow on burlap is really fun, too!

I'm just sitting here speechless, gazing at this card. I can't get enough of it. Everything about it is just so fabulous. I love that gelli background--makes me want to go play with my newly acquired gelli plate! It does coordinate so perfectly with this little owl that is just such a hoot (pun intended). And then to add the burlap and the embossed edges give this such rich texture and just makes it magical! You are just amaing, my friend!
