I had admired Design Team member, Patrice's example card where she sponged dots that faded toward the corner. I wanted to try doing the same thing with embossing paste as the "spots" for my card.
I started with what I think is a many years retired Stampin' Up! paper that had gold speckles in it as my "speckles" part of the challenge. I stamped a retired 2004 SU hydrangea bouquet on the right side of the speckled panel using Stazon Jet Black ink. Then "watercolored" the floral bouquet broadly with splotches of ink using an Aqua Painter water pen.
After the coloring was completely dry, I followed Splitcoaststamper's tutorial for using embossing paste (Colored Texture Paste Tutorials at Splitcoaststampers) with SU's "Dots & Stripes" plastic mask with the dots on it and applying Dreamweaver's embossing paste to which I had added Smooch's Sugerberry ink to create a lavender paste. This was smoothed over the dotted plastic mask onto the card panel with the heaviest (thickest) paste in the upper left, tapering to the thinnest past at the bottom right. This was allowed to dry for two hours. Don't forget to wash you plastic mask and paste applicator thoroughly in warm water IMMEDIATELY after using them.
The final step was to stamp the sentiment from SU's "Flower Garden" onto a scrap piece of the speckled cardstock, using Stazon Jet Black Ink. It was then punched out using the Marvy tag punch. A hole punch was used on the tag.
The finely meshed pink tulle was saved from a flower arrangement I got on Mother's Day. I simply cut a corner of the tulle, then pushed it through the tag hole, and folded it beneath the tag and attached the tag to it using Mini Glue Dots. The tag assembly was then attached to the card front with Mini Glue Dots as well.
The finished front panel was glued to the SU Elegant Eggplant card base with Tombow glue.
I have rated this card a difficulty level of "3" out of "5" primarily because of the care it takes to make the watercoloring look splotched, and the use of the embossing paste.
