This card was made for Sunday Stamps Challenge #178: http://sundaystamps.blogspot.com/201...g-sketchy.html I was inspired by Design Team members Heather and Annette who both made beautiful inspirational cards for this challenge.
The card base is the standard A2 size (8-1/2"x 5-1/2") folded in half. The front panel is Stampin' Up Crumb Cake cardstock cut to 4"x 5-1/4",
This sketch challenge required a roundish item with other roundish items in the foreground. I decided that a welcoming summertime card would be fun using summer garden vegetables. So I pulled out my 1996 SU "Very Veggie" stamp set and chose the eggplant for the background, and carrot for the foreground.
The eggplant was stamped with SU Elegant Eggplant that had been stamped off onto a scrap piece of paper once before stamping on the Whisper White cardstock. The stem was stamped on SU Garden Green cardstock using Garden Green ink. It was cut out with a pair of paper snips.
The three carrots were stamped with SU Pumpkin Pie ink. All three vegetables were then pressed onto a clear Versamark ink pad, and then sprinkled with clear embossing powder and heat set with a heat tool.
The carrot tops were stamped with Pear Pizzaz ink onto Pear Pizzas cardstock, then fussy cut with a pair of paper snips. I created the internal openings on the leafs using a small heart-shaped punch (no brand). Then attached the leafy tops to the carrots using a Mini Glue Dot on the back of each.
Note that the carrot leafy tops and the eggplant stem should be attached with Mini Glue Dots on the back AFTER the embossing powder has been heat set on the vegetables. I did NOT heat emboss the leafy tops or stem. The eggplant stem was attached on the front of the eggplant using a Mini Glue Dot.
The zig-zag stripe across the bottom of the veggies is a piece of Washi tape (brand unknown) that I stretched out on my working surface and brushed SU Perfect Plum ink across it to give it a color that picked up on the eggplant. It was stretched out across the card panel and trimmed with an Xacto knife.
Finally, the sentiment was stamped in two steps, first the Summertime word was stamped in Elegant Eggplant, then just the word "Welcome" from the SU "In the City" sentiment "Welcome to our Block" was inked with Elegant Eggplant and stamped above the script word. To ensure proper placement, I used by MISTI for both words.
The last step was to attach the eggplant and carrots to the card front. I did this with a combination of adhesive foam strips and Mini Glue Dots. I used this approach to give depth to the card front.
The card wasn't that difficult if you ignore the need to fussy cut the veggies. So I am giving it a difficulty rating of "2" out of "5". Enjoy your summer!
