Birthday Bouquet

Photo Details
Poster: donnaks

This card was made for Paper Players Color Challenge #393 (http://thepaperplayers.blogspot.com/...om-claire.html) that required the use of the four colors Pumpkin Pie, Wild Wasabi, Strawberry Slush (I used Melon Mambo), and Hello Honey.

The card base is Stampin' Up Wild Wasabi cardstock cut to 5-1/2"x 8-1/2" folded in half to an A2 size. The front panel is 5-1/4"x 4" Whisper White.

I was inspired by Paper Players Design Team members Claire and Sandy who made gorgeous floral themed cards. I also was inspired by sam.2001's gallery here on Splitcoaststampers.

I started by cutting the pretty "Swirly Scribbles Thinlits" swirly shape from Wild Wasabi cardstock. This became the anchor for the flowers. It was glued toward the top of the white panel using Tombow glue.

The various flowers were stamped from the challenge colors onto challenge color cardstock using the retired 2007 Stampin' Up "In the Spotlight" hostess stamp set. Because the stamp set doesn't have a matching diecut set, I searched around in my die collection and found three that had pretty good pairing with these retired stamps:
- SU Flower Fair Framelits (five petal flower, and flower center
- Spellbinders Scalloped Circles Nestabilities (large scalloped flower)
- SU Stitched Shapes Thinlits (circle flower centers)

The large scalloped flowers and leaves were hand cut with paper snips.

Each of the blossoms and flower centers were then assembled with adhesive foam strips, and attached to the swirly diecut shape using Tombow glue or adhesive foam strips.

Finally, the birthday sentiment was stamped at the bottom with Melon Mambo ink using a stamp from the SU "Sassy Salutations" set.

I'm rating the difficulty level as "2" out of "5" because of how quickly the card came together once I found dies to match the flowers.

I don't usually make cards with bright colors like these, so I want to thank Paper Players Sandy and Claire for the inspiration to step outside my comfort zone!

Thank you for your kinds words, Tara and Jen! It always feels good to pull out one of your older stamp sets and make a very modern feel card. Now I don't feel so bad about keeping it for 11 years :-D -Donna
